We have a 2018 Toyota Corolla that only has 56K miles on it, and unlike most families in LA, we are a 1-car family. That means that our car is vital, especially since we have an active 10-year-old who has a lot of activities to get to.
Our Check Engine light has been going on and off, so our usual mechanics (Dennis and Bob at Ed Little) told us to take it to Don at Larsen because our mechanic doesn’t have the diagnostic tools that Don does.
Admittedly, I was nervous. My wife and I have been burned before with shady mechanics. Plus, my dad passed away last year, and I would call him for advice on car-related matters, so to not have him to call for something other than routine maintenance made me anxious. Dennis and Bob at Ed Little on Sepulveda were the first mechanics we’ve grown to trust implicitly, so when they said to go to Don at Larsen, I knew that’s where I had to go.
But from the moment I pulled into the Larsen lot, I felt completely at ease. Everyone who works there looks happy to be there, and they were joking around with each other.
I had spoken to Don on the phone before bringing my car in, and he told me to ask for him when I dropped the car off. I really appreciated that personal touch. Don walked me through exactly what he suspected was happening and what he was going to do. I also had a hard out in which I needed the car (remember, we are a one-car family), and he assured me he’d have it back to me before that.
I won’t get into what was needed, but I will tell you that it was a 2-day process. Don even asked me when I picked up the car after the first day when I would need it back the next day, remembering that we have only one car and I have a kid who needed to picked up, etc.
Don outlined everything that was going on with my car, and when I told him things were a little tight financially, he didn’t make me feel guilty or bad about it. He walked me through my options and gave me the advice I needed to fit my current financial situation.
Plus, during both days, the car wound up being ready earlier than anticipated. I love that they text when the car is done.
Also, I have to thank the mechanic who worked on my car. I know they were especially efficient and went above and beyond in many ways, and I am so grateful.
Honestly, when I picked up my car after it was all done, I could’ve hugged Don. It was the first time I had gone through something automotive-wise that I couldn’t call my dad about. And so I know this sounds weird, but I really felt safe and looked after. It’s unnerving when you don’t understand something that costs a lot of money to maintain. It takes a lot of trust because there are too many people out there who take advantage of this.
So if you need anything diagnostic done, I really couldn’t recommend Larsen Automotive more.
Thank you so much for sharing this, Lacey. Your trust means more to us than you know, and we’re so glad Don and the team could make a stressful situation feel a little easier.
We know how important your Corolla is to your family, and we’re grateful we could work around your schedule, explain your options honestly, and help you make the best decision for your situation. We’ll also share your kind words with the technician who worked on your car.
Thank you for trusting Larsen Automotive and for such a heartfelt recommendation. We’re honored to be a shop you can feel safe and confident turning to.
